If you are good at tinkering and have a large amount of patience, you could construct a homemade telescope from easy to procure materials. Your list will include lenses, tubes, mirrors, ans some sort of mount. A set of finely adjusting screwdrivers will also be needed. There are a multitude of designs you could follow but the Dobsonian is probably the most straightforward. Contructing a telescope yourself will let you know the work it took to produce these instruments by hand for hundreds of years.
