Galileo?s Telescope, Learning Its History

In the history of astronomy no one has had greater impact than Galileo. He refined telescope design to such a point that it became a highly-respected instrument in the field. But his telescopes were seen as dangerous instruments that challenged the church. His background in physics led him to lay the foundation for thinking that, some years later, would inspire Newton to advocate his theory of gravity. When it was finally accepted, Newton’s theory radically transformed the field of physics.
